The concrete mix calculator is a free single-file HTML tool that works out cement, sand and aggregate quantities for a volume and mix ratio for builders. Concrete ordering goes wrong in a predictable way: the wet volume on the drawing is treated as the volume of dry ingredients, and the site runs short. This calculator avoids that trap by working from the dry volume, which is taken as 1.54 times the wet volume because dry ingredients contain air gaps, and it counts cement in 50 kg bags, the unit suppliers actually sell.
How to use it. Open concrete-mix-calculator.html in a browser and enter the concrete volume in cubic metres, then pick a mix ratio and click Calculate. Read the cement, sand and aggregate quantities from the result, and round up when ordering rather than ordering the exact figure, because a small shortfall stops a pour and a small surplus does not. The 1.54 dry-volume factor and the 50 kg bag size are built into the tool, so you do not need to remember either number on site; you only need the wet volume and the ratio the design specifies.
Worked example. A builder needs 2 cubic metres of wet concrete for a small slab. The dry volume is 2 multiplied by 1.54, which is 3.08 cubic metres of dry ingredients to split by the chosen mix ratio into cement, sand and aggregate. The calculator shows the cement portion in 50 kg bags, so the builder can order whole bags, and the sand and aggregate portions in cubic metres for the supplier. He rounds each figure up when ordering, because the cost of a little extra aggregate is far smaller than the cost of a stopped pour with a half-finished slab and a mixer waiting.
