The load shedding work planner is a free PDF and Excel pack that splits freelance work into power tasks and no-power backup tasks for freelancers working around power cuts. Power cuts do not have to mean lost days; they mean the wrong tasks were scheduled for the wrong hours. The planner's core idea is simple: every task is either a power task, which needs mains electricity, or a backup task, which does not, and the week is planned so that a cut switches you to the backup list instead of stopping you.
How to use it. Write your area's usual cut hours first, because a plan built on guessed hours fails on the first unscheduled cut. List the week's power tasks and backup tasks separately; backup tasks are work you can do without mains power, such as planning, hand-written drafts, and phone replies on mobile data. Charge devices before the cut, work the backup list during a cut, and use the spreadsheet's deadline column, which flags deadlines at risk on cut days, to warn clients early. Informing a client early that a deadline is at risk is far better than informing them late that it was missed.
Worked example. A freelancer knows her area usually loses power from 6 pm to 9 pm. She schedules her design work, a power task, for the morning and afternoon, and moves her backup tasks, drafting next week's post captions by hand and replying to client messages on mobile data, into the 6 to 9 pm window. One week a deadline falls on a heavy-cut day, and the planner's deadline column flags it at risk; she tells the client two days early, agrees a revised delivery time, and still delivers, because the cut hours were planned for instead of discovered. The backup list turns three lost hours into three useful ones.
